What Is Laser Facial? What Does the Treatment Involve?

Laser Facial is a treatment in which low-powered laser energy is directed at the skin to help reduce the appearance of dullness and pigmented spots.
By targeting melanin pigment, it may help address skin concerns caused by hyperpigmentation. It can also be effective for hair removal, pore tightening, and acne improvement.
Laser Facial uses a light called an “Alexandrite laser.” Because the output is gentle and a cooling gas is applied simultaneously during irradiation, discomfort is minimized.
Difference Between Laser Facial and Photofacial (IPL)
A similar laser treatment to Laser Facial is called “Photofacial (IPL).”
Photofacial (IPL) is a treatment that uses a light known as “IPL” to address pigmented spots, freckles, dullness, and acne simultaneously. While similar to Laser Facial, Photofacial (IPL) may also help improve facial redness.
Additionally, Laser Facial and Photofacial (IPL) differ in wavelength and laser pulse duration.
Laser Facial has a shorter wavelength than Photofacial (IPL) and a longer “pulse width,” which refers to the duration of laser irradiation. Because the laser light reaches deeper into the skin, it can directly target pigmented spots and acne.
By selecting the appropriate laser light, a wide range of benefits can be addressed, including sagging, enlarged pores, and hair removal.
Who Is Laser Facial Recommended For?
Laser Facial may be a good option for people who:
- Have noticed an increase in freckles
- Want to address pigmented spots
- Are concerned about visible pores
- Want to restore a youthful, firm complexion
- Are bothered by vellus (fine facial) hair
Laser Facial is recommended for those troubled by freckles, pigmented spots, or skin dullness. It may also help with pore tightening and hair removal.
In addition to skin-brightening effects that help address hyperpigmentation, it may also support collagen production for an improved skin texture. For these reasons, Laser Facial is considered a versatile treatment approach that may help address a variety of skin concerns together.
4 Potential Benefits of Laser Facial

There are four potential benefits of Laser Facial:
- Improvement of pore blackheads
- Improvement of pigmented spots and dullness
- Improvement of acne and acne scars
- Vellus hair removal
Below, we explain the mechanisms by which Laser Facial may provide cosmetic benefits for each of these concerns.
1. Improvement of Pore Blackheads
Laser Facial may help improve the appearance of blackheads in pores.
The main cause of blackhead pores is the accumulation of melanin pigment around the pores. Inflammation around the pores caused by built-up sebum and dead skin cells leads to melanin accumulation within the skin, which appears as blackheads.
Laser Facial has the effect of helping to disperse melanin pigment from the skin, which may help improve the appearance of pore blackheads. By directing the laser across the entire face, pores may gradually become less noticeable.
2. Improvement of Pigmented Spots & Dullness
Like pore blackheads, pigmented spots and dullness are caused by excess melanin.
Because Laser Facial works on melanin, it may also help reduce the appearance of pigmented spots and dullness.
Laser Facial is also characterized by relatively minimal downtime, such as crusting or redness after treatment. It is a treatment approach that aims to support a brighter complexion while keeping side effects to a minimum.
Since broad treatment areas can be covered, Laser Facial may also be suitable for those who want to address dullness across the entire face.
3. Improvement of Acne & Acne Scars

Laser Facial may also help improve acne and acne scars. Acne and acne scars are primarily caused by bacterial activity in the pores. By using laser light to help eliminate bacteria, the treatment targets the underlying source of acne.
It may also work on the dermal layer of the skin to help stimulate collagen production. As collagen increases, skin regeneration may progress and acne scars can gradually fade.
4. Vellus Hair Removal
Laser Facial may also have a hair removal effect on fine vellus hair.
Because laser light can also affect the hair shaft and follicles, it may help remove unwanted hair. The heat generated may also stimulate cell activity, which could help with pore constriction.
Removing vellus hair can leave the skin feeling smoother. Improved makeup application can be an added cosmetic benefit alongside treatment for skin concerns.
What to Expect During Your Laser Facial Treatment

At our clinic, Laser Facial treatment follows these steps:
- Consultation & Examination
- Face Cleansing
- Treatment
- Aftercare
We begin with a consultation to learn about your skin condition and concerns, and explain the treatment content and pricing. We aim to explain everything in a clear and straightforward way, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
After the examination, you will cleanse your face to remove makeup before treatment begins. During treatment, protective covering is placed over your eyes to prevent accidental laser exposure. Each treatment session takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Following treatment, we perform “cooling” as part of aftercare — cooling the skin to help relieve any warmth or flushing. Combining this with “iontophoresis,” which helps deliver water-soluble active ingredients deep into the skin, may further enhance skin-beautifying effects.
Post-Treatment Progress After Laser Facial

After Laser Facial treatment, redness may appear around the pores, and pigmented spots may temporarily darken.
In most cases, these reactions subside within a few days. If a pigmented spot darkens, it will typically form a scab within about one week and naturally flake off on its own.
There is also a possibility of an acne reaction, where red acne blemishes may appear following treatment. The appearance of red acne is a sign that bacteria have been targeted by the laser.
These reactions generally improve gradually over about one week. If you are concerned about any symptoms, please do not hesitate to contact our clinic.

4 Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Facial

Here are answers to frequently asked questions about Laser Facial.
Q1. From which session can I expect to notice results?
After just one Laser Facial session, many patients do not yet notice a significant change. Results vary from person to person — some patients see improvement earlier, while others notice a difference after several sessions.
By continuing treatment through approximately the 4th to 5th session, results tend to become gradually more noticeable. Where possible, continuing through the 6th or 7th session is considered ideal.
Receiving treatment approximately once a month can help support more favorable outcomes. Leaving too much time between sessions may reduce the ongoing effectiveness of Laser Facial, so we recommend scheduling sessions roughly every one to two months.
Q2. How long do the effects of Laser Facial last?
A single Laser Facial session may sustain its effects for approximately one month.
Undergoing multiple sessions can help extend the period during which benefits are maintained. Combining treatment with peeling procedures such as iontophoresis may further enhance results.

Q3. Will my skin get worse if I stop treatment partway through?

Acne and pigmented spots that have already improved through Laser Facial treatment will not automatically return if you stop partway through.
However, collagen in the skin naturally decreases with age, so the possibility that acne or pigmented spots may recur after discontinuing Laser Facial cannot be ruled out.
Q4. Are there any cases where the treatment does not go as expected?
If the skin is sun-damaged, there is a possibility that Laser Facial may not deliver the intended results.
When there is active sun damage, the laser light may be absorbed by the melanin in the outer layers of the skin rather than penetrating to the dermis, which could reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Post-treatment hyperpigmentation may also occur in some cases.
For these reasons, treatment is generally not performed until sun damage has resolved.
Patients who are taking antibiotics or medications that may cause photosensitivity may also be advised to postpone treatment, as hypersensitive reactions could occur. Treatment is also generally not available for patients who are pregnant.
