What Is Dual Peel? A Treatment Combining Both Spectra Peel and Lutronic Peel

Dual Peel is a treatment that uses the Q-switched YAG laser “Spectra.”

It delivers two irradiation modes — “Spectra Peel” and “Lutronic Peel” — in succession.

Spectra Peel has the advantage of delivering heat to deeper layers of the dermis, while Lutronic Peel is expected to help improve overall skin tone. Together, they can address a wide range of skin concerns such as clogged pores, strawberry nose, and wrinkles.

By combining two different laser irradiation modes, Dual Peel may support increased collagen and elastin production, helping to improve skin texture and tone for a firmer, more luminous complexion.

Dual Peel also involves minimal discomfort during laser irradiation and relatively little downtime. Because it causes minimal stress to the skin, you can apply makeup and return home immediately after your session.

What Can Dual Peel Do? Addressing Pigmented Spots, Wrinkles, and Enlarged Pores

The following effects may be expected from Dual Peel:

  • Improvement of pigmented spots, freckles, and melasma
  • Improvement of acne
  • Enhanced skin texture and firmness
  • Reduction of enlarged pores on the nose
  • Improvement of skin laxity

In a Dual Peel session, the face is first treated gently with short pulses using “Laser Toning,” followed by long-pulse “Spectra Peel” irradiation over the entire face, combining the benefits of both modes.

One of the key advantages of Dual Peel is that a single session can address a variety of skin concerns at once.

Will Dual Peel Work for Me? How Many Sessions Before You Notice Results

Results from Dual Peel vary among individuals.

Some patients notice a difference after a single session, while others may require multiple sessions.

As a general guide, around five or more sessions may be needed before results become noticeable.

Combining Dual Peel with Iontophoresis Is Recommended

When undergoing Dual Peel, we recommend combining it with iontophoresis.

Iontophoresis is a treatment that applies active ingredients to the skin and uses a mild electrical current to help those ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin layers.

The skin has a natural barrier designed to protect it, and simply applying toner or serum to the surface does not allow active ingredients to reach deeper layers. Iontophoresis temporarily bypasses this barrier, enabling active ingredients to penetrate more deeply into the skin.

Combining Dual Peel with iontophoresis may further help reduce the appearance of pigmented spots and dullness.

For more details on iontophoresis, please refer to the following page.

Are There Side Effects with Dual Peel? Possible Redness and Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

The following side effects may rarely occur with Dual Peel:

  • Burns
  • Blistering
  • Scabbing
  • Suppuration
  • Sensation of heat
  • Hyperpigmentation / hypopigmentation

among others.

Skin redness can generally resolve naturally with prescribed topical medication and appropriate care.

To help minimise the risk of side effects, please avoid sun exposure after treatment, keep the skin well moisturised, and avoid any irritation to the treated area.

Please also be aware that if you have permanent makeup (e.g., tattooed eyebrows), laser irradiation may cause fading of the pigment.

The Dual Peel Treatment Process

The Dual Peel treatment follows the steps below:

  1. Pre-treatment consultation
Remove makeup and have your skin condition assessed. A treatment plan tailored to your individual needs will be proposed.
  2. Makeup removal and cleansing
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed using a cleanser and towel.
  3. Treatment
Laser irradiation is performed according to your skin type and condition.
  4. Reapplication of makeup
You may reapply makeup immediately after the treatment.

Depending on skin type, some redness may appear after the session, but in most cases it subsides within a few hours.

Post-Treatment Recovery and Downtime for Dual Peel

Dual Peel involves relatively little downtime, so you can apply makeup and go about your day straight after the session.

In addition, there are no particular restrictions on your daily routine after Dual Peel.

Some peeling treatments require aftercare such as applying ointment or dressings, but Dual Peel does not require any special post-treatment care, making it an easy treatment to fit into your lifestyle.

That said, please avoid scrubbing your face vigorously when bathing or cleansing after treatment, and be sure to apply sunscreen and keep your skin moisturised.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dual Peel

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about Dual Peel.

Q. Is the Dual Peel treatment painful?

Results vary among individuals, but most patients experience little to no discomfort during Dual Peel. You may feel a mild warmth during the procedure.

However, some patients may experience a slight prickling sensation.

Post-treatment discomfort is generally short-lived, making this a treatment that is well tolerated even by those who are sensitive to pain.

Q. Can Dual Peel also address melasma?

Dual Peel may help reduce the appearance of melasma.

However, “Lutronic Toning” is generally considered more suitable than Dual Peel for melasma treatment.

Lutronic Toning is one of the irradiation modes available on the same Spectra device used for Dual Peel. As Spectra can be tailored to different skin concerns, we encourage patients with melasma to consult our doctors before beginning treatment.

Q. How often should I have Dual Peel sessions, and how far apart?

Dual Peel sessions are generally recommended once every two to four weeks.

Once you begin to notice results, a maintenance schedule of approximately once a month is typical. Depending on your skin condition, a course of 8 to 10 sessions may be recommended.
